The upcoming live-action adaptation of Gears of War has found its screenwriter. Variety reports that Jon Spaihts has been brought in to write the screenplay for the film, a big step forward for the project following years of slow progress on turning the hit video game into a movie. Spaihts is best known for his Oscar-nominated work co-writing Denis Villeneuve’s Dune along with its upcoming sequel, Dune: Part Two, and has also helped write Prometheus for Ridley Scott, The Mummy for Alex Kurtzman, and Doctor Strange for Scott Derrickson. He also wrote Morten Tyldum’s sci-fi film Passengers which starred Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt.
