The Little Mermaid is mostly a straight-up remake of the original 1989 animated classic, with a few tweaks here and there to bring the story a little more up to date. Despite the story of The Little Mermaid being based on a fantasy fairy tale that should really sit outside any real world expectations, social commentary and life lessons are strangely always at the forefront of many people’s minds, and therefore the new take on the story makes some changes to the directionand purpose of Ariel’s desire to be part of the human world.
