Wim Wenders, the visionary New German Cinema director behind Paris, Texas (1984) and Wings of Desire (1987), is no stranger to the documentary feature about real-life artists. In fact, his films Buena Vista Social Club (1999), Pina (2011), and The Salt of the Earth (2014) were all nominated at one point for the Academy Award for Best Documentary (Feature).
