Director Scott Derrickson has confirmed that his segment in the upcoming horror outing V/H/S/85 takes place in the same universe as his 2021 horror film, The Black Phone. The popular Blumhouse mystery thriller is based on a story by Joe Hill and starred Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, E. Roger Mitchell, Troy Rudeseal, James Ransone, and Miguel Mora. The Black Phone follows 13-year-old Finney Blake (played by Thames) who is abducted by a disturbing child killer (played by Hawke) and locked in a soundproof basement. After Finney starts receiving calls from a disconnected phone, he soon realizes that the voices he’s hearing are the killer’s previous victims, attempting to help Finney escape their fate.
