A new version of the sports comedy The Longest Yard is on its way, almost 50 years after the original starring Burt Reynolds, and almost 20 years after the most recent effort led by Adam Sandler. In 1974, when he had already become a major Hollywood star, Burt Reynolds starred in the first version of The Longest Yard, a sports comedy centered on a successful NFL player named Paul “Wrecking” Crewe, who must serve a prison sentence after confronting some police officers in a chase. Inside the prison, the guards force Crew to form a team with the rest of the prisoners to face them in a match that’s sure to become the stuff of legend.
