Paul Mescal will have to show that he can carry on the legacy of Russell Crowe in Gladiator 2, and he will have to do it by facing much more than other gladiators. He will also have to face a pack (or troop) of baboons, and all because of a video that director Ridley Scott saw. Gladiator is not only one of the most acclaimed films in Scott’s filmography, it was also the undisputed winner of the Best Picture award at the 2000 Oscar ceremony, so when the director announced that he wanted to make a sequel it generated mixed responses.
