Mel Gibson Provides Update on Lethal Weapon 5: ‘I’m Pretty Happy With It’

Its been a long time coming, but Lethal Weapon 5 is still in the works according to star Mel Gibson, who will also be taking over directing duties for the late Richard Donner following his passing in 2021. Beginning in 1987, Lethal Weapon saw Gibson team up with Danny Glover in the buddy-cop movie featuring a pair of mismatched LAPD detectives working to solve the murder of a friend’s daughter. The film would go on to earn $120 million at the box office, and spawn an entire franchise that saw three sequels, and a TV show in 2016. A legacy sequel, Lethal Finale, was first mentioned to be in development by Gibson in 2021, but theres been little news on the project since then.
