Gru (Steve Carell) might not consider Despicable Me 4 landing the top spot at the box office as impressive as say one of his light bulb ideas, la the time the former super-villain shrunk and absconded with the moon. However, the sequels estimated $122.6 million take domestically (per The Numbers) was still quite the feat. And Despicable Me 4s dominance was clearly a foregone conclusion because there was no doubt Grus big-screen showdown with Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) would win the five-day Fourth of July weekend. Plus, the sequel set the record for the biggest opening weekend of any film in the Despicable franchise.
