Its no secret that writer/director Mike Flanagan is one of the biggest Stephen King fans around, and now the creator of such King adaptations as Geralds Game and Doctor Sleep has revealed that he “ripped off” the King short story ‘1408’ for his 2013 hit movie Oculus. First published in 1999 in the audiobook collection Blood and Smoke, ‘1408’ found its way into print in the 2002 collection Everythings Eventual. It would go on to receive a vastly underrated film adaptation in 2007, which was directed by Mikael Hfstrm and starred John Cusak as Mike Enslin, a skeptical paranormal researcher who finds himself trapped in a haunted hotel room for one night.
