Back in 2017, the Tom Cruise-fronted The Mummy was intended to kick off Universal’s Dark Universe. Things didn’t go to plan after that misguided IP reboot crashed and burned. This left the other announced films in limbo but, in time, those that weren’t dropped from Universal’s schedule were reworked and allowed to stand on their own, a la Leigh Whannell’s terrific The Invisible Man. One of those intended projects was The Invisible Woman, a modern retelling of the silly 1940 comedy.
