Channing Tatum’s surprise appearance as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine has vindicated the character after Tatum faced years of development hell on a standalone film. However, what some fans might not know, is that Tatum’s cameo in the film re-united the actor with one of the directors who was brought on to pitch for the Gambit movie many years ago. Tatum was officially cast in a standalone Gambit film back in 2014. However, the movie couldn’t escape production purgatory and was ultimately scrapped when Disney regained the rights to the X-Men characters in 2019. Numerous directors were reported to have joined and departed from the movie… including Deadpool & Wolverine‘s very own Shawn Levy.
