Hellboy: The Crooked Man Director Explains Why the Movie Isn’t a Reboot

According to director Brian Taylor, the new Hellboy movie, Hellboy: The Crooked Man, is anything but another reboot of the beloved comic book character. The titular demonic hero has been adapted into two different iterations on the big screen. Guillermo del Toro first transformed Ron Perlman into the hulking, red-skinned detective in his two movies, Hellboy, and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. In 2019, the character was rebooted, with Stranger Things star David Harbour in the eponymous role. Directed by Neil Marshall, 2019’s Hellboy was criticized by fans as an unfaithful and poorly made reboot. Now, Taylor says that his new movie shouldn’t be compared to the past versions for one key reason.
