Despite its hip-hop heavy trailer and a rhino riding gladiator, Ridley Scott wants to remind fans that Gladiator II isn’t a fantasy. The upcoming sequel, which stars Paul Mescal as an aged up Lucius (originally played by Spencer Treat Clark), takes Scott back to ancient Rome, 24 years after the original movie. As well as telling a kick-ass story of a Gladiator rising up against the rulers of Rome, Scott made Gladiator and Gladiator II to remind audiences that ancient history is, well… history.
