A lesson for all aspiring actors: Do not get in between Ridley Scott and the movie he is trying to make. Unfortunately for Paul Mescal, he learned that lesson the hard way on the first day of shooting Gladiator II. Mescal plays Lucius, the son of Maximus Decimus Meridius (as was revealed in the latest trailer), who is captured by the Roman army and forced to fight in the Colosseum a premise that may sound a little familiar. Before being cast as an ancient warrior, Mescal was best known for bringing audiences to tears in heartbreaking dramas like Normal People and Aftersun. To step back in time to Ancient Rome would be an overwhelming feat for anyone, but Ridley Scott didn’t give Mescal any time to let his nerves set in during production.
