‘Gladiator II’ Star Paul Mescal Says Next Sequel Won’t Take “24 Years”

Gladiator II isn’t even in theaters yet, but Ridley Scott and Paul Mescal are already eyeing up Gladiator III. Scott hasn’t been secretive about wanting to return for more movies set in Ancient Rome, and Mescal recently said he’s desperate to join the acclaimed British director for another hop through the cinematic time machine. Mescal plays Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and Maximus (Russell Crowe), who fled from Rome after the death of Emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Fans are still waiting to see if Lucius survives the sequel, or if he’ll go out on his shield like his father. But Mescal’s recent comments might have preemptively spoiled that mystery.
