David Gordon Green is no stranger to taking on major franchises, from his recent Halloween trilogy to The Exorcist: Believer, but that (and the horror genre) is somewhat of a new thing for the great filmmaker. It’s been 25 years since his first movie, the masterpiece George Washington, which was followed by the other great David Gordon Green indie dramas (Snow Angels, All the Real Girls, Undertow). Now he’s going back to his roots following five years of horror movies, releasing the holiday comedy Nutcrackers with Ben Stiller this week on Hulu. When speaking with MovieWeb about the film, he opined about his years making horror franchises and gave out some advice to those handling big intellectual properties, with horror auteur Mike Flanagan handling the next Exorcist:
