The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim writer Philippa Boyens has teased a big future for the franchise – including another live-action trilogy. Speaking with The Playlist about the big screen anime Middle-earth outing, Boyens revealed that the The Lord of the Rings “brain trust” are working on “a wealth of ideas,” including several stand-alone movies, sequels to The War of the Rohirrim, and “another, larger, more epic trilogy in the vein” of the original, and much-loved, Lord of the Rings series.
