‘Alien: Romulus’ Receives First Golden Globes Nomination for ‘Alien’ in 40 Years

It’s a big year for horror films at the Golden Globes, as Alien: Romulus has officially received a nomination in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category. The sci-fi horror film isn’t the only one in the genre to receive recognition, as The Substance also received five Golden Globes nominations, which speaks to the growing change in perception of the genre and its much-deserved recognition. Both film nominations speak to the genre’s impact on the industry this year, with The Substance showing the potential for horror’s placement among other prestige awards contenders. In contrast, Alien: Romulus’ nomination shows its widespread appeal and success. What makes it all the more impactful is that an Alien film hasn’t been nominated for a Golden Globe in nearly 40 years.
