Sonic the Hedgehog 3 easily got the better of Mufasa: The Lion King as the two films went head-to-head over the weekend. The Sega video game adaptation landed the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office with an estimated $62 million (per The Numbers), while the Disney prequel had to settle for the silver medal with only $35 million. Luckily, for the Mouse House, No. 1 Sonic 3 won’t open overseas until Christmas, and, as a result, No. 2 Mufasa declared victory globally with another $87.2 million for a worldwide total of $122.2 million.
