When moviegoers think of Barry Jenkins, what first comes to mind is probably “director” and Moonlight. But let’s not forget he won his sole Academy Award for writing, having adapted Tarell Alvin McCraney’s renowned play for the screen. He quickly followed that up with the acclaimed 2018 film If Beale Street Could Talk, but that was the last feature film we’d see from Jenkins (though his 10-part TV series The Underground Railroad is a masterpiece).
