After a couple of years in development, the film adaptation of Street Fighter, the hugely popular and influential video game, has finally found a new director. Kitao Sakurai (The Eric Andre Show, The Passage) has been hired to helm the movie, per Deadline, which Capcom and Legendary are co-producing together. Following the exit of the Philippou Brothers (Talk to Me) as directors in June 2024, despite Sony reserving Mar. 20, 2026 as a release date, news surrounding the film went quiet. Now with Sakurai onboard as director, Street Fighter can work on getting a cast together, especially considering it will open in about 13 months.
