Perhaps one of the most unexpectedly complex characters in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise is Stephen Lang’s Colonel Miles Quaritch. The first film had him as stereotypical of a villain as they come, before he eventually met a grisly fate by the movie’s end. While it took a little over a decade for the sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, to be released, it still managed to defy expectations and be an enthralling blockbuster, in no small part thanks to Lang’s performance as the newly resurrected Quaritch. This time, the character would be put into the body of an Avatar, making him the very thing he wanted to destroy.
