Over the past seven months, Osgood Perkins has had an impressive run. The director has released two films theatrically through distributor Neon: the horror thriller Longlegs, starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, and the horror-comedy The Monkey, starring Theo James. The latter is based on Stephen King’s short story of the same name. Longlegs became a critical and box office success, surpassing Parasite to become Neon’s highest domestic grossing film. The Monkey, which was just released in February 2025, also had the second-highest opening weekend in the distributor’s history. To celebrate the release of The Monkey, Perkins did an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit, where the director revealed his wish to tackle a Star Wars film, albeit not in the way anyone would expect.
