Movie promotion has taken on many shapes over the years and one of the more polarizing methods has been utilizing the social media following of celebrities to spread the word about a project. On paper, it seems fairly innocent since the reach of most well-known Hollywood stars is pretty vast, and posting about their films on their Instagram or Twitter is cheaper than any television spot. On the other hand, it has some negative implications. Some people are hired because of their immense social media following, while others who have decided to stay away from it for personal reasons are asked to do so to promote a film. Scarlett Johansson found herself in the latter position with Universal Pictures when they recently asked her to join Instagram to promote Jurassic World Rebirth.
