The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the franchise nobody saw coming; starting out as a low-budget horror film from director Tobe Hopper that didn’t even get an official Hollywood premiere until 2024. One film launched one of the most beloved horror series ever with an icon in the form of the villain Leatherface. The 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre was followed by three sequels: a reboot, a prequel to that reboot, a retcon sequel to the original film, a prequel to the original film, and a legacy sequel. Now, a new film version appears to be in the works.
