How ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Pulled Off Galactus’ Epic Scale

In a cinematic universe where motion-capture performances are often used (to great success), The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman wanted to do something different. When it came time to bring the movie’s villain — Galactus, Destroyer of Worlds (yes, that’s his full name) — to life, the retro-futuristic tinged film chose to do something decidedly retro, by making at least part of actor Ralph Ineson’s performance rendered in practical effects. Which is wild when you consider the sheer size of a villain who is capable of holding entire worlds in the palm of his hands.
