In a cinematic universe where motion-capture performances are often used (to great success), The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman wanted to do something different. When it came time to bring the movie’s villain — Galactus, Destroyer of Worlds (yes, that’s his full name) — to life, the retro-futuristic tinged film chose to do something decidedly retro, by making at least part of actor Ralph Ineson’s performance rendered in practical effects.
